What is Crazy Salt?
When you think of something like salt, adjectives like crazy don’t really come to mind. After all, how can a salt be crazy?
Salt certainly doesn’t have a personality. Or does it? Perhaps the craziest part about the crazy salt is how much flavor it has! It’s actually shocking how much flavor is packed into a seasoning that seems so simple.
If our Crazy Salt did have a flavor it would be bold and loud – in your face. Those wouldn’t typically be adjectives we’d like to see in a person, but when it comes to our spices and condiments. We want them to be loud!
Crazy Salt is a tantalizing combination of crunchy sea salt and spices. In short, it’s a one stop shop.
Instead of having to season your food with salt, then pepper, and then other spices, Crazy Salt allows you to do it all with a simple pinch and sprinkle. Use it to season everything from vegetables and fish, to meat dishes and eggs.

Where does Crazy Salt come from?
Crazy Salt hails from Guerande France. Guerande is a medieval town located in the Pays de la Loire region of Western France.
The town’s salt marshes have made it a renowned producer of sea salt or fleur de sel, a traditional garnishing salt. The salt marshes of the city are massive, stretching for acres and acres.
The current salt marshes began around the 9th century and lasted for hundreds of years. The latest were built as early as the 1800’s.
Here, salt workers collect 15,000 tons of cooking salt and 300 tons of fleur de sel each year. Today, around 250 workers live on the salt marshes.
The process for salt production is simple. Channels that feed the water reservoirs with sea water, use the tides. Salty water then evaporates in different dams till there are only a few centimeters of sea water left.
The last step is where the salt crystallizes and produces the fleur de sel and coarse salt.
What spices are in Crazy Salt?
Crazy Salt boasts not just one, two, or even three spices. But six, yes six powerful spices to give your food that insane boost of flavor you crave.
The crunchy and decadent fleur de sel from Guerande is seasoned with pink peppercorns, black peppercorns, thyme, chili, cumin, and coriander.
Of these six spices, the pink peppercorn may be the most unusual. It’s pop of bright pink color is instantly recognizable and totally mesmerizing.
The flavor is just as bold and intense as crazy salt itself – notes of sweet berry and juniper make it a pleasant seasoning against the saltiness of the fleur de sel.
The pink peppercorns are not a real peppercorn at all, but instead a type of juniper berry, from the shrub Schinus, more commonly known as the Peruvian Pepper Tree – cool name right?
Then there’s the black peppercorn. This is the spice that really has the big bold flavors that make Crazy Salt so intense.
The black peppercorns in the Crazy Salt are sourced from Vietnam and Brazil. They’re of the highest quality, and in our mind, the absolute best in the world.
The black peppercorns flavor is bold and spicy, with notes of woods and cocoa. On a spice scale, the heat index is milder than the Tellicherry or Wynad pepper cousins.
It does have a distinct kick that leaves a pleasant tingling zing.
Then you have beautiful flavors of thyme, chili, cumin, and coriander. These spices are more common and recognizable to most people, but that doesn’t mean they’re not important! They must be fresh and sourced from a place that really knows how to treat their spices.
Then there’s the ever-important issue of ratio. All of these spices can’t just be thrown together. They’re carefully measured and blended in precise ratios to create a perfect blend of harmonious flavor. That’s why is tastes so good!
How do chefs cook with Crazy Salt?
One of the best things about crazy salt is how easy it is to use. Because it’s already been precisely and accurately formulated, you don’t need to take those extra steps to apply it to your food.
All you need to do is pinch and sprinkle! Taste the food and if you think it needs more, add more. It’s just that easy. One of our favorite uses is in cocktails. Use a swipe of lime juice and apply the crazy salt to the rim of your glass.
Perfect for margaritas, palomas, and bloody marys. Your guests won’t know what hit em!
We love to use Crazy Salt on eggs. It’s great on just about any type of egg dish you can dream up. Scrambled, poached, omelet, hard boiled…
Add a little avocado and some toast and you’ve got yourself a meal!
Vegetable dishes also benefit from a sprinkling of crazy salt. It goes great with roasted carrots, or any type of root vegetable really.
A little bit sprinkled over the top of a freshly baked dish of mac and cheese is divine! Or if baked potatoes are your thing, try rubbing the outside of your potatoes with olive oil and sprinkling them with crazy salt.

Of course, we can’t forget about the meat. Grilled chicken, steaks, and pork chops should never go without a hearty seasoning of Crazy Salt – the amount of flavor the seasoning will add to your grilled meats is outrageous.
In fact, just about anything you throw on the grill will benefit from a generous sprinkle of crazy salt. Corn, onions, summer squashes and zucchini. All amazing with a sprinkle of that huge Crazy Salt flavor.
But what about seafood! We love slathering a whole fish with olive oil, lemon, fresh garlic, and a nice sprinkle of Crazy Salt.
